JUPITER GOVERNS LAWYERS AND JUDGES
The careers of men in this world are as varied in nature and results as are the physical and intellectual traits. Before taking up a profession, if a man knows his aptitudes well and selects his vocation accordingly, there will be no cause for repentance. Planets give excellent indications of success and failure in the various professions men are engaged in and they indicate with a fair degree of accuracy one’s likes, dislikes and aptitude, so that if properly handled, Astrology can prove an invaluable aid in the selection of a profession or vocation.”
The various occupations are clasified into six broad groups or categories, viz.: (a) Intellectual avocations (b) Economic occupations (c) Aesthetic activities (d) Routine work (e) Mechanical profession and (f) Trade. Those who follow the legal profession fall under group (a) Judges, Lawyers and people connected with the legal profession.
The 10th house is the most important house in a horoscope as it indicates the means of livelihood. Scients have identified the 10th house with profession. The most powerful planet in the horoscope will also have a considerable bearing on profession. There are three deciding factors regarding the 10th house: (a) when the 10th is not occupied (b) when the 10th is occupied (c) When the 10th is occupied by more than one planet.
The intellectual signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. These signs intensify the power of thinking. An airy sign indicates power of oratory whereas Mercury governs orators. Jupiter governs lawyers and judges and has a prominent place in the charts of lawyers. We will note the indications in a horoscope that suggest legal profession. Mars is the planet of disputes and the 7th house is the house of disputes in horoscope. The Pleader’s duty is to take care of his client’s interests with reference to various laws of the country.
The 2nd house controls speech, which depends on one’s intellect or knowledge, which latter comes from the 5th house. The Pleader has often to refer to many books. He has to think more and more because he must be cautious in addressing the honourable courts. He should avoid all unnecessary detail, put his case in a proper way and that too to the point in an indicative way. He has to be alert and courteous. He requires daring as well as patience. He should be able to argue in a clear-cut manner, with a well-balanced argument, and he must be able to impress the presiding officer. The arguments must be expressed in legal terms in a forcible manner with facts and figures. All these qualities are represented by Mars.
The 9th house is the house of luck. Saravali gives highest priority to the 9th house. Bhavartha Ratnakara and other works also are of the opinion that no real fortune can be formed without the participation of the 9th house, its lord and its kiirakas, the Sun and Jupiter. To be fortunate in life, the 9th lord and its karakas, the Sun and Jupiter, must be strong. Jupiter gives status and position whereas the Sun gives fame and name. Jupiter’s influence makes one become a peacemaker, high judicial officer and an establisher of right conduct, right action and right demeanour. The Sun’s influence gives rulership of a country, land, service under the State. The Lagna, the 10th and their lords, the Moon and the Sun cannot give a life of glory to the native if the 9th & its karakas are weak and afflicted. The strong position of the 9th house its lord and its karakas make amends for the drawbacks caused by the weak position of the Lagna and the 10th lord, leading the native to a glorious future. The 9th is the only house that gives bhagya (luck, fortune) without which no real glory can be enjoyed in life.
The 9th house as the “invisible goddess”. The strong 9th house sustains the native in all circumstances, even if the chart suffers because of other drawbacks. Furthermore, if the 9th house is occupied by a malafic, inimical or debilitated planet and its lord happens to be in the 6th house, the native suffers in every respect. if the 9th house is occupied by a benefic, the native is lucky. Regarding the chief significations of the 9th house, it has mainly to do with father, fortune and long distance travel. When we look at the 9th house, we should take into consideration the following facts: (1) Rasi in the 9th house (b) 9th lord; (c) aspects on the 9th and the 9th lord; (d) planets in the 9th; (e) planets in association with the 9th lord and (f) the karakas of the 9th house.
The planet Jupiter is connected with justice, judges, rules of religions, Pleaders, etc. The Pleader has his business mainly in a court of justice. Jupiter is the benevolent and righteous planet and indicator of the legal profession. If connected with Lagna, Jupiter gives dignity. The Pleader puts his client’s case in a proper manner, defends him on righteous lines in a forcible way and puts forth his case on an intellectual plane by dint of his oratory based on legal knowledge. Every Pleader has to face his opponents either on true or false grounds. Jupiter with good aspects will keep the Pleader on right lines. Jupiter well placed in a horoscope shows the measure of help which a native will inherently have. The 9th is the house of “Daivanukula” (God’s grace) and Jupiter is the karaka for God’s grace.
The Sun in the 10, or especially in the 11th, is of sovereign merit in any chart. Sage Garga says that for a day birth, the Sun in the 11th and for a night birth, the Moon in the 11th (full and radiant Moon) destroy even a crore of dosas. The royal planet Still, lord of the 9th in the 10th, causes Srinatha Yoga. The general rule is that Mercury or Venus in Lagna kendra or Jupiter in a kendra in the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th, especially in the 1st or the 4th, (according to Jataka Parijata or Mars in the 10th make the native shine in life and bring luster to his or her family. According to a Tamil verse, the golden planet Jupiter in a kendra is like nectar.
For a successful career in the legal profession, Saturn must be connected either with Lagna or the Moon. Saturn is the planet of the masses and the Pleader’s Saturn must be strong. Saturn is an indicator of law and the Pleader’s profession is connected with law. The evil nature of Saturn creeps in at times and so we find some Pleaders turning their client’s wrong to right and some others turning right to wrong. Saturn touches humanity, service and discipline and is an apostle of true justice.
A happy disposition of the lagna goes a long way in counteracting the evil dispositions of the other houses and planets. The disposition of Lagna is a powerful factor contributing to the welfare of the native. The relative disposition of the planets vis-a-vis the Lagna produces several yogas. Where tile Lagna or its lord is badly placed the native cannot enjoy tile full fruits of Raja Yogas or the beneficial combinations present in the chart. The reason for the yogas not being effective in a majority of cases lies in a weak lagna or its lord. The lord of Lagna is considered to be the ruler and the other planets give results according to their relations, duties and responsibilities to the lord of Lagna. For any chart to be promising, its Lagna, the Moon and the Sun should be strong. The Lagna represents the exertion, aptitude and the general flow of wealth.
The ultimate aim in all professions is to generate money. the 2nd house rules finances in general, the 9th house the general luck, and the 11th financial gains. Wealth is not minted; it has to be earned. Earning may be in several ways. A strong first house shapes a man to earn by dint of his efforts. The planet associated with the first house or its lord indicates the aptitude and likely course of one’s earning. The ascendant shows the exertion and aptitude as also the general flow of wealth. An interrelation between the 1st, 2nd and the 5th will give abundant wealth. The 5th is an important trine as it confers stead y intelligence and retention of wealth.
The 11th house is also very important. It is the tritrikona of the 3rd, which along with the 7th and the 11th, forms the kama-tripod of a horoscope. The 11th is called the Sarvabhisthana or the house of fulfilment of all desires, such as the 4th, indicating house, lands, etc., is called the Abhistasthana. Financial affluence depends upon the position of Lagna, the 2nd and 11th and the planets placed therein. The 2nd denotes earnings of the native through the tongue and rules one’s wealth while the 11th denotes profits and gains. Lagna shows the aptitude of the native while the 10th shows the actual type of work. All planets in the 11th give very good results. Malefic planets are considered strong in the 11th. They are inclined to confer good influx of money and other forms of welath. Easy access to money will be had if the 11th is strong. Benefics in the 11th always ensure a sweet life, without much effort. The 11th is the 7th from the 5th (Laksmisthana). All the planets in the 11th aspect the 5th. All benefics in the 11th consitute Vasumati Yoga which confers a lot of wealth. the 4th house gives happiness and the 9th represents luck. These two are essential pillars for the accumulation of wealth.
The main planets connected with the legal profession are the Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. The houses mostly connected are the 1st, the 2nd, the 5th, the 7th, the 9th, the 10th and the 11th. The positive factors: (a) Saturn connected with the 10th from the Lagna or the Moon. (b) Jupiter’s connection with the Lagna or the Moon. (c) Connection of the 7th and 9th houses and the planets Mars and Jupiter. (d) Connection between the 2nd and the 5th and the planet Mars. Mars should have connection with the house of education. (e) The Sun or Jupiter should be related to the 10th house.
For a Judge, the Ascendant and the nature of the Raja Yogas present are the most important. invariably, Jupiter has a say with reference to the 10th house. Although Judgeship is departure form independent profession (of an advocate) to service, it is an elevation in terms of status & power. The 6th house in a chart shows service and the 10th an independent profession. So there must be a connection of the 6th with the 10th. Jatakachandrika says that Yogas are of no good if the concerned Dasas of the Yoga- giving planets do not run or transpire. The brilliant Dasas should not be out of reach. We see natives with good Yogas trudging ordinarily through life, owing to the non-advent of the Yogadasas in their lives. An Yoga is fruitful only when lord of the Lagna is well placed and strong and the 9th house of fortune is fortified, and its lord powerful. Good Dasas occuring at the right time of life can lift a native to decent position even though the chart may not be inherently very strong.
