Future of IPL
by Dr. Shanker Adawal
The Indian Premier League is a professional twenty20 cricket league created and promoted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and backed by the International Cricket Council.
The IPL works on a franchise-system based on the American style of hiring players and transfers. These franchises were put for auction, where the highest bidder won the rights to own the team, representing each city. The auction took place on January 24, 2008 and the total base price for the auction was $400 million. The auction went on to fetch $723.59 million.
The Mumbai franchise owned by Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) was the most expensive franchise - with the fetching USD 111.9 million closely followed by Vijay Mallya's United Breweries - which paid $111.6 million for the Bangalore franchise. Media house Deccan Chronicle won the Hyderabad chapter of the IPL for $107 million, while India Cements' Chennai franchise costing $91 million. Bollywood also made its presence felt with two of its leading stars bagging the ownership of their respective teams - Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla's Red Chillies Entertainment buying out Kolkata for $75.09 million, while Priety Zinta and her beau Ness Wadia bought the Mohali team for $76 million. GMR, the infrastructure development group which who are involved in a project for revamping the Delhi airport, bagged the ownership of the Delhi team for $84 million and the Emerging Media, consisting of its CEO Fraser Castellino, Manoj Badale and Lachlan Murdoch and other investors won the rights for the Jaipur franchise for $67 million.
All Eight franchisee teams are participating in the Indian Premier League to be held from April 18 to June 1, 2008. The first match was inaugurated with a pompous ceremony in the Chinnaswami Stadium. With this inauguration a new phases started in the history of cricket fraught with entertainment, glamour and money.
But the important question is what will be the future of the IPL? How far will it succeed?
According to numerology, the number of teams in the game is eight and this leaves no doubt for the success of such matches. The number eight is related to the Saturn. This reflects determination and stability. The time period from 2008 to 2015 is very good for the number 8. Year 2009, 2011 and 2018 will be especially good for the IPL. Keep in mind the next cricket world cup of 2011 will also be organized in India. There are three numbers in the acronym IPL, therefore, this will get special favour from the government and there will not be any obstacle.
If we explain the kundali of India, from September 15 to July 2008, the pratyantdarsha of Jupiter is starting in the antardasha of the Mercury and there will be a sukshmantar of this Rahu and Ketu in September. This combination will take the cricket of India to its pinnacle.
If we see the Kundali of Sachin Tendulkar, there is antardasha of Mercury in the dasha of Rahu. Rahu is at the fifth house with the Moon and when it is in the 8th house, it will give positive as well as negative results. So Tendulkar will show his batting charisma during this period. His health might suffer during this period.
If we talk of Shahrukh Khan, the owner of Kolkata Knight Riders, the mahadasha of the Saturn is starting from March 2008. The position of Jupiter till December 2008 suggests that he should avoid any controversies during this period. But in his kundali, the Sun, the lord of the Leo lagna, is in the position of power and is visible from Panchamesh Guru. Such persons keep away from controversies and focus on their work. Such persons also maintain good relations with people at higher positions and politicians.
Finally, it can be inferred that IPL will become popular in the future. This will create its own identity in the international cricket.
