Is Your Match Made in Heaven?
Arranged marriages today have shed the stigma of a forced bond between two people. It is more often considered as a union of two families, rather than just two individuals. And as a result, background, religion, caste can all play legitimate and important roles and necessitate parental involvement. And thus, astrology plays an integral part as well.
In almost every Hindu family, the kundali or the horoscope is prepared for every individual as soon as he or she is born. In marriages, matching the horoscope assumes importance.
A janam kundali is prepared to capture the precise position of the planets at the individual’s birth time. And the matching of janam kundali of the boy and the girl is often seen to be an integral part of an arranged marriage. Vedic shastras consider the man and wife as a single being.
The destiny of one becomes the destiny of the other. For such an important decision, it is important to make sure that all factors are favourable and through kundali matching, one can assure a fair degree of compatibility. And if the kundali doesn’t match or if the astrology match is unfavourable, then it is likely that the married couple will face a lack of harmony in their life. Often it has been seen that if two people of two different birth charts stay together and if their janam kundalis don’t match, then there may be trouble in paradise, which could hinder a harmonious relationship.
And there have been occasions when couples have to leave each other. That is why astrological compatibility is considered an important parameter.
In India, it is said that it doesn’t matter if nothing else matches, the kundali match is inevitable. This belief has roots in the Vedic epics and has been tried and tested since time immemorial.
Kundali matching is based on eight different factors. The technique of matchmaking is almost 3,000 years old. The astrologers use various aspects of a natal chart, specially the placement of the moon to judge a match for two people. In this system, scores are assigned to each factor in the natal chart. The scores differ according to the importance of the factor. The maximum combined score that can be achieved is 36. This in Vedic terms is known as Guna Milan. It is nearly impossible to achieve a score of 36 in any two charts. According to astrologers. It’s not possible to match 36 gunas.
When we do it, it’s known as raj jotok. But this is an exception. What we as astrologers suggest, is a minimum score of 18. If 18 gunas match in a couple’s kundali, that should augur well for them. But any score below this is suicidal to the relationship.
Astrologers consider Kuja dasha or Managalik Dosha (Mars Blemish), to be another important factor in the success of marriage. If either one of the partners has this Mangalik Dosha, then the match is considered very unfavourable. In the case, both the partners must have the Mangalik Dosha in order to negate the blemish in each other’s charts.
