MAHURTHA FOR MARRIAGE
It is said that good and evil forces are embedded in the womb of time. There is a good time to sow and a good time to reap. In selecting a good Muhurtha, one tries to restrict the influences of bad planetary forces and select times with good planetary forces. It must however be mentioned that Muhurtha cannot over-ride irrevocable destiny of a person. For that the blessings of God must be sought and obtained.
Guidelines for selecting a good Muhurtha are given in astrological texts. Some like tarabala, panchaka, good yogas, weekdays, tithi, karana, lagna, planetary positions and aspects, hora, navamsa etc. are taken as essential for a good Muhurtha for marriage.

Dozens of yearly Panchangam books published all over the country in local languages give different Muhurthas for various purposes, including ones for marriage.
While matching the horoscopes of the boy and girl is essential for a happy and prosperous married life, it is also essential to select a good Muhurtha for marriage. The Muhurtha for marriage is the first time the boy and the girl touch each other either by a shake-hand, putting a ring or tieing the Mangal Sutra. Some hold the view that a good lagna for marriage can ward off many evils, even Vishakanya and Gandanta yogas etc. Such a good lagna for marriage showing the positions of each planet is given for the guidance of the readers. Here the position of Ketu is not taken into account.

The navamshas of Mercury, Venus and Jupiter are good while the rest are deemed to be unfavourable.
