The book is clearly divided into two parts: some articles/reflections on various aspects of life, bordering on the religious and the spiritual with titles like ‘Faith’ and ‘Glory to the Mother Divine’. The second part titled ‘Reel life to real life—based on life’ is autobiographical and what makes for a good read and deep thought.
The title amply sums up her life: we all live in a make-believe, tinsel or reel world like that of cinema. We cry, laugh and so on, while there is no valid reason to do so. Only a few like the author Krishna Saksena are able to transcend this world and move on the real world, of spirituality, of what is, truly and eternally.
Krishna Saksena has had a brilliant academic career. She was the first woman candidate in the whole of Uttar Pradesh and among the few in India to get the Ph.D. degree in English literature way back in the year 1955. She taught English literature for long years at the Delhi University.
Yet, Krishna Saksena’s life would have followed the usual pattern: daughter, wife, mother, university don, and householder. Then, in an accident, her youngest son, named Shiv, at an early age gets mentally retarded for life. This gave her endless agony. “Why me!” she cried, asking God, sometimes losing faith in the justice of God. Various trials and tribulations follow – her husband also dies suddenly. Finally there is light at the end of the tunnel. She reconciles to life, her faith in Mother Goddess deepens.
Though she still says that she is like you and me, something has transformed, a touch of divinity is visible in her sage. How else you can explain that she was inspired to found Krishna Pravah Ashram at Raoti Raman in Vrindavan. The special appeal of the ashram is in its atmosphere that gives new hope to its devotees for a better tomorrow; it lifts you to the Divine.
