The essential morphogenic plasticity of our souls not only leads us forward on our personal mission on this planet, but also allows glimpses of the promise of freedom inherent in human nature. The soul can be characterized as the dominant part of the self that experiences, perceives, observes, acts, thinks, makes choices, responds, enjoys, suffers and remains the inner abode of all these elements. The whole Universe outside us dwells in our innerness-the macrocosm in the microcosm. Sufi mystics and poets have, over the centuries, written volumes on the qatra (droplet) containing within itself the dariya (river).
The authors have organized this book into three parts. The first part deals with the concept of inner experience—thoughts, images, emotions, feelings, sensations, perceptions, insights and knowledge among other things. In the second part, the essence of some great souls is presented-people who lived in different eras and who could offer to mankind a movement forward in the most selfless manner. They have included, without any hesitation, some luminaries from contemporary times in this list of great people. It is relatively easy to look at greatness and judge it from a distance in time. But to see it in others around you is a little difficult, but at the same time, very important. In the third and concluding part, the book describes the journey of the soul and its various manifestations as the unfolding of an eternal essence.
The human race is called the last and the foremost by the Prophet of Islam (peace and blessings be upon him). This is so because, although man was the last creature to come into existence, he is, in fact, the focus and goal of creation. When our knowledge from the past structures our experience in the present, there is a danger of reality getting obscured. Time and again humanity has blindly and thoughtlessly repeated its past blunders condemning young generations to find their way afresh in the darkness of basic ignorance. It is this ignorance that this book attempts to dispel. The dialogue in the book is not conclusive. Authors invites readers to interact and keep exploring the purpose of human lives. |
